Beautiful day in Granada :) Sacromonte, Albaicin, Mirador de San Cristobal and San Miguel

Have you ever been to Granada? As I live there believe me that here is plenty of beautiful things to see and always something to do. I wrote an article about my visit to Alhambra and now I would like to share with you one of my days in the city, so you may imagine how is it to live here.

Granada panorama

It was one of many sunny days, so I decided to do some sport. I put on my running shoes and set off from Cerillo de Maracena neighbourhood. I run nort east through small streets and hills. I love to see buildings in different parts of the city. I don’t know how it’s possible, but they are always stunning. Have a look at some pictures!

I stopped for a while on Mirador de San Cristobal which is not too far and it is possible to admire most of the city. Here is the photo, so you can imagine, but of course it is better to be there and feel it!

Mirador de San Cristobal

I continued to jog uphill, because in Sacromonte neighbourhood is a church on top of the mountain. It is much higher point, so the view is much better as well. Climb is absolutely worth the effort, to see all the city and Alhambra. On the way down you may stop in some of the bars to have some delicious food or maybe a drink with tapas? Whatever you fancy, because food in that city is delicious and you can’t miss it.

I like a lot to climb on top and just look down at the city, look up at the blue sky and look around on the mountains of Sierra Nevada. It makes me very realxed and I feel better. try it. Believe me not everyone is so lucky, to have a short walk and be in the place where all surrounding area is below your feet. If you feel lazy, or just don’t have enough time, you may take a bus to get there. I hope that my pictures convince you to be in Granada 🙂

Visit to Alhambra Granada

Last week during Spanish ‘puente weekend’, which means in Spanish slang ‘a long weekend’, I finally decided to pay a visit to Alhambra Granada. It’s the most well known place around and because it is visible from far away it became an object of admiration by many. Especially visitors of ‘Mirador de San Nicolas’ in Albayzin neighbourhood of Granada can see an Alhambra palace in its full sublimity.

Alhambra means “the red one” and it is a palace and fortress complex. In 889 it was constructed as a small fortress and in the 13th century was completely rebuild by Moorish emir Mohammed ben Al-Ahmar. In 1333 Sultan of Granada Yusuf I from Nasrid dynasty converted it to a royal palace. In 1492 Catolic Monarchs conquested Granada and overcame last Moorish muslim dynasty, which I mentioned above. The Palace of Charles V was built in 1527 in the centre. It became one of Spain’s major tourist attractions, exhibiting the country’s most significant and well known Islamic architecture.

From the entrance I headed straight to the Nasrid Palace as my ticket stated admittance for 2pm. After the brisk walk through the garden path I was at the door. People were
queuing and after a short while we ere allowed inside. I was amazed by all what I was able to see inside. All walls and even ceilings are masterpieces. Everything decorated with Arabic inscriptions that are manipulated into geometrical patterns called arabesques. My attention gained windows in unusual shape with stunning views on all surrounding city of Granada. Inside beautiful patios with unusual fountains providing water. Especially beautiful marble Fountain of Lions. Moors were proud of their ingenious hydraulic system and I completely understand why. It amazes me till today.

When I was thinking I saw a lot the reality was that my visit to Alhambra Granada has just
started. Next place to have a look at was the Charles V Palace. A big building made of large stones outside and with round square inside surrounded by many columns. Impressive and unusual place.

Walking through the Puerta del Vino (Gate of wine) I got to the highest point of all complex which is Alcazaba were is located the highest wall of the fortress and its tower on top of which are four flags of Spain, Portugal, Granada and Andalusia. Beautiful view on all around from there. For typical person from here unusual is forest of green trees which started to change their colour for red and yellow. FromSierra Nevada view from Alcazaba my point of view that’s very normal, because in Poland we have plenty of trees and I was born there. I liked to look far away at the mountains of Sierra Nevada covered with snow. This view is very unique for me.

Last point of the visit to Alhambra Granada was Generalife. I needed to rush to there as I spent plenty of time in previous locations. I had just half an hour left! It was a leisure place for the kings of Granada. In the palace is many beautiful fountains, but here is even more. Plenty of water, flours and very green gardens. Buildings are very simple. This place was definitely created to run away from splendid life to contemplate in peace close to the nature.

My visit to Alhambra Granada was an amazing experience. I spent there full 4h and it definitely wasn’t enough. I’ve seen an architecture like never before in my life. Now is late autumn, so the nature was preparing for winter. I would like to come back to Alhambra in April or May to see the nature awaken. It must be the most beautiful period to visit the Nasrid Palace and Generalife.

Erasmus Friday party in Granada

Hello. Everything started during the week when I got to know about a small party being prepared in the flat of one of erasmus students. It was one of friends of Naya who was organizing. I liked the idea, so I instantly decided to go with her. It’s always good to from time to time go to a new place and meet some new people. Moreover drink somethning and try some new food. Although I didn’t know them I was sure that with Naya I’ll have a good time like always.

Erasmus Friday party

On Friday we bought some alcohol and in the evening we went to Naya’s friend who lives in our neighborhood, so we had a short and pleasant walk. On our arrival we were welcomed by few nice people who were already there, 90% of whom were Germans. The most shocking thing for me that evening was that they started to speak in very good Spanish with German accent! I’ve never before heard typical German person speaks Spanish. That sounded like a thing not to find in nature. I know that there are people who speak Spanish and German, but till now I always was meeting people who were learning both language since being an infant, so their mimic and sound were completely different. Anyway, nice to know how Spanish sounds in a German version. Anyway I Speak Spanish with Polish accent, which must sound funny too.
For erasmus Friday party we met in a flat of one of GermErasmus Friday partyan friends. We had a good time in the living room and balcony listening to some music and having some drinks. Some other people were cooking food. Erasmus Friday party special were burgers, however they were not typical, they were vegetarian burgers, so basically some vegetables mixed together with some flour to keep that together. Lettuce and tomato to add some flavour and sauce or some hummus on top. Worth to mention is carrot too. A good erasmus Friday party can’t lack of a delicious dessert! This time they prepared a big bowl of a fruit salad. Yummy!

Mostly German students were around, but as well a lot of French students arrived and 2 Spanish which made an evening very unusual for me, because for the first time I was surrounded, by that mix of people. German parties are not my style, but it was really nice to experience one.

Install new system windows fast? How?

Last days I tried to download some files from torrents and I had a problem with the internet at home. My transfer stopped in the most unexpected moments. I wouldn’t be recommending Vodafone network to nobody here in Spain. The speed of the broadband is neither impressive nor constant. It has got 2 levels. I would call them ‘slow’ and ‘slower’. They say that in the city centre it works fine, but come on! I live not further than 2km away.

How to install new system windows fast if first I need to download it? Moreover I needed to download all files from my server toInstall new system Windows keep a copy on my local computer, but connection was not stable. I was desperate and asked my brother to download some things for me and put it in ‘dropbox’. Unfortunately that feature allows to transfer files of maximum size of 2GB if anyone wants more needs to pay, so I needed to manage alone, because it’s not worth to pay for a storage which is going to be used only once. I tried since Monday and finally on Thursday the internet connection started to work properly. Thanks God! Let’s see for how long.

Install new system windows. Start!

Finally having all files downloaded time to install new system Windows 8.1. Computer has got 2 disks, so the system goes to the SSD one which is small (128GB), but very fast. The other one 1T will be for other stuff. I created a bootable USB with UltraISO to install new system windows fast and easy. The next step was to install all drivers which came on an additional CD. After I added few extra programs, everything was set up and ready to play.

Next task accomplished. Now I plan to install WordPress multi-site and prepare a website for my father’s business. Keep reading and I’ll show you effects of my work.

First day at the gym

Hi. I promised to share with you an experience of my first day at the gym, so carry on reading if you want to know how it may look like.

first day at the gym

All stared, like it usually does, with people around me who joined the gym and exactly from people who I live with. In my case, they influenced my choice of the place I would attend to. I was told that their gym does a special offer which lasts only till the end of October. Basically the rules were very simple. Whoever joins before the end of October pays only for the month of December and attend all classes, swimming pool and other facilities of the gym from the joining day. To put it out simply one month was for free and I am happy as well that I didn’t need to sign a contract, so I decide how many months I want to stay there 🙂 Membership in my case cost ?49,90 in Granada, Spain, but of course every gym will have it’s own prices, so you shouldn’t take that number as a guide. Just find the most convenient place for yourself in your local area. That would do for you. I’ve found already a cheaper one (?20) in the same distance from the place I live. It’s smaller and probably without a swimming pool too, but I plan to change for something cheaper as I will not have so much time to work out then, but I still want to take care about my well being.

first day at the gym

First day at the gym

Actually I didn’t train on the day I signed up. I came a day after. On the first day at the gym I didn’t want to train too hard as my muscles are not prepared for a heavy work out. I decided to start from a treadmill to warm up and then surprise… One of the trainers working there approached me and told me I need a towel to keep my sweat in there. It’s not what you think! I didn’t look like a water fountain. I haven’t even get tired after an approximately 1 min jog. The boy was nice and explained me to go to his colleague at the reception called Inma and she would provide me with one. She did like he said, but just to be kind I told her it’s my first day at the gym and I won’t bother her next time. At the beginning it’s nofirst day at the gymrmal to don’t know things. I didn’t know that, although that wasn’t the first time in my life I joined the gym. I carried on my general work out, that means I was trying to use as many muscles of my body as possible, but with just a little weight. Finally I decided to focus more on my back muscles and biceps adding some shoulders exercise. Till today I feel in my body effects of that training, especially in mentioned earlier lower back muscles, so the rest time will extend till tomorrow morning.

I got to know some staff working there, I got to know machines, now I need only to be persistent 🙂

3 gym benefits explained

  1. Accessibility
3 gym benefitsThe first of 3 gym benefits is its accessibility for most of the people. Nowadays there is not only one, but probably a few in your local area. You may find them by asking your friends where they work out or doing some research on the internet. Each bigger gym should have a website full of useful information where the most interesting for you should be the price of their membership plans and what’s included in each one. Ideally if you find one which suits you the most. This way you won’t be paying for extras you would never use.
  2. Classes with professional teachers
Second benefit of a gym are people who may prepare3 gym benefits you a weekly or monthly plan of exercise. They are called personal trainers and their job is to take care about your body constant development in a safe way which will allow you to avoid injuries. This part probably sounded a little bit scary, but there’s nothing to worry about. All exercises performed well help you to avoid injuries in a long run. Personal trainers may make your membership cost a little bit more, but at the beginning it may be worth to have one. Moreover gym which has personal trainers usually offers different classes for groups too, so you won’t need to train alone. They have various names, like Zumba, Body Combat, Yoga, and they are all fun! Exercising with others will keep you motivated.
  3. Your health
The last, but 3 gym benefitsnot least important of 3 gym benefits I would like to tell you about is your well-being. Doesn’t matter here if you are a complete beginner, someone who comes back to doing exercises after a long break or a person who trains regularly. For everyone it would have a long term health benefits. By taking care of your body it would take care about you. My new blog Piotr’s World

I’m Piotr and I started a photo blog more than a year ago. Why photo blog? I thought it takes a little effort and time to post a picture from time to time. I was absolutely correct about it. Moreover I had that new fancy camera, so I had plenty pictures to choose from. I took much more pictures than I published on my blog, but a few is there. I will publish a link to my previous blog in the end of this post. I created My new blog Piotr’s World, because I started to write comments to my pictures and at some point I published only text without picture, so I made a decision that a blog in wordpress is much better for me, because it may become more popular here and I may have more fun interacting with new blog piotr's world

Why on my new blog Piotr’s World I made an allusion to a face? That’s very simple and funny. My girl was making me look younger and more beautiful! It is something very appropriate for upcoming Halloween. Have a look. lol

Then today I found an appropriate hosting for my blog which was affordable and reliable and I can start to write:) OK, actually I found a different one more affordable, but I had a chat with customer service of this one and they allowed me to get it a bit cheaper than normal price, so I pay the same what was supposed to pay for the other one, but I have faster server and better support. How good is that! I recommend it for all of you for a start, because it’s fast and reliable with great customer support: Hosting SEO –

Now I’m in Granada, Spain. If you’re interested in that city follow me here and I will let you know what is worth doing and what is better to avoid.
